Before I get to my 2017 Gift Guide for Toddlers, I feel compelled to say that toddlers don’t need a lot of toys, they just need attention and that is truly the best gift that you can give them.
If buying toys isn’t within your budget this year, then trust me, your toddler isn’t going to know or care about what he/she gets. While Tony enjoys playing with toys, I’d say his favorite “toys” are actually things like my cookware, my wooden hair brush and his shoes (which he refuses to wear but loves to hold while walking around barefoot…).
That said, if you are looking to buy some toys here are a few things that my toddler either already has and loves or things that are on our Christmas wishlist this year.
Felt Christmas Tree: This is a gift you’ll probably want before Christmas day. Tony and I have so much fun putting the ornaments on the tree and ripping them off. I’ll sing or put on some holiday music while we play with the tree (daily). Whenever he puts an ornament on the tree I make a big deal out of it and clap so now whenever he puts an ornament up he claps and laughs too. It is the cutest thing ever.
BeatBo: My parents got this for Tony’s first birthday and it is such a fun toy! Tony dances when BeatBo dances and laughs really hard when the “freeze” song comes on because his mama looks really goofy when she “freezes.” I love this toy.
Fish and Splish Bath Toy: I credit this toy for helping Tony enjoy bath time. He sort of liked baths before but ever since getting this toy, it has become a challenge to get him out of the tub. There are several toys within this boat, so we keep some on land (in the nursery) and some in the tub and he loves playing with them wherever they are.
Radio Flyer 4-1 Stroll N Trike: This is on our wishlist! Grandma and grandpa have already told us they’re getting this for Tony this year. Someone gave Tony this classic walker wagon made by the same company and he just loves it! I think he’ll really like this trike too. It’s a toy that grows with your child so it can be used for several years.
Toy Guitar (& maybe this drum set): Yeah, I don’t know what I’m thinking getting Tony more toys that make noise BUT he has a toy piano that he loves so I just know he will love this toy guitar and this drum set. Roby (my husband) plays the guitar with Tony every night as part of Tony’s bed time routine and Tony will play a few strings too. Now the two of them can jam together.
Organic Cotton PJs: This is definitely more of a practical toddler gift – and well if I’m being honest, it’s probably more of a gift for mom. I just love this print (which isn’t on sale, of course) but be sure to browse around – they have a lot of cute clothes that are on sale (like these jammies!). These are practical, durable and adorable which is basically the perfect combination.
Books: You can’t go wrong with gifting a toddler a book. Tony has so many books but his favorites are Pout Pout Fish and this ABC book. He brings these books to me all the time and loves when I read them. In fact, we’ve read them so many times that Roby and I have them memorized. I used to know lyrics to songs but not anymore – now I only know words to children’s books. Not complaining – I kind of love it. “Deep in the water where the fish hang out, lives a glum gloomy swimmer with an ever present pout…” Hooked, right? (tell me you got the pun…).
Wooden Puzzles: Tony loves these Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles! He has several of them and loves holding the puzzle pieces, chewing them and occasionally he’ll use them the way he’s supposed to. I think these are nice now and will be fun for a little while as his fine motor skills continue to improve.
Pretend Play Kitchen Pots and Pans: Tony loves playing with my cookware but most of my pots and pans are too heavy for him to play with. I know he will really like this kitchen set – plus it has great reviews!
Let’s Play House Dust! Sweep! Mop!: This gift is 100 percent wishful thinking. My hope is that this toy encourages Tony to learn how to clean because right now, my kid is like a tornado in the house – he is so darn messy. It has great reviews so maybe there’s hope?
Happy Holidays! Leave me a comment to let me know what you’re getting your toddler or let me know if there’s a toy that you highly recommend! 🙂
