It is COLD season.

Roby is currently fighting off a cold. Since he’s basically irresistible, I’ve been sneaking kisses in between his coughs and sneezes. Now that I write that out… it sounds pretty gross.

To keep myself from getting a cold, I’ve been eating my gummy vitamins, taking probiotics, and drinking my daily golden milk. Roby’s not big on golden milk so, I came up with these concentrated golden milk gummies – they’re sweet and small and fun to eat. This is the perfect way to get a picky husband or picky kids to get their golden milk.

Why drink golden milk? Or I suppose I should be asking, why eat golden milk gummies?

I’m going to answer that question (that I asked) with a story (as usual). When I was a kid, my parents would make me turmeric milk when I wasn’t feeling well – like, if I was having a tummy ache or if I caught a cold. The spice cabinet is a pretty common go-to in Indian households when it comes to treating minor illnesses. And golden milk, also known as haldi ka doodh, is a known ancient home remedy.

I’m not here to convince you that turmeric is some magic cure-all but research does show that curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, has many health benefits.

These gummies are made with a concentrated golden milk mixture. I normally don’t make my golden milk this strong if I’m going to be sipping on an entire cup. But since I eat just 1-2 of these a day, I want them to pack a punch of the golden spice. In addition to turmeric, I also added a good bit of ground ginger. My mom always makes me a strong ginger chai when I’m feeling sick, so I figured it only made sense to add ginger to these gummies. I also added a pinch of cardamom for flavor and a pinch of black pepper because it’s supposed to help the body absorb the curcumin.

All of those spices + raw honey + grass-fed gelatin = gummies that are perfectly sweet and slightly peppery.

If you want to use fresh turmeric in this recipe, go for it – double the amount. Oh, and make sure you’re careful when handling turmeric – it stains everything.

I hope that these gummies will help keep you healthy during cold season!

  • Add the water to a large bowl and sprinkle the gelatin over top of the water. Set aside.
  • Add the milk and spices to a saucepan over low-medium heat, whisking for about 4-5 minutes.
  • Turn off heat and add the honey. Mix well.
  • Slowly pour the milk into the bowl with the water and gelatin and whisk until the gelatin completely dissolves.
  • Pour the mixture into a mold (this is the pumpkin mold I use) and refrigerate until firm, about 3-4 hours.
  • Store the gummies in an air-tight container in the fridge for up to one week.

Notes

Make sure you are using gelatin (and not collagen).

Hi! I can’t wait to try these gummies! I bought Turmeric a while ago but have not had the audacity to try it yet LOL. I was trying to find a way to use some fresh ginger on hand and came across golden milk. Question, how much fresh ginger would you add to this recipe in place of the powder?

Woo hoo, now I have a use for the gelatin I picked up months ago and my turmeric!

    Thank you so much!

Beverly, fresh ginger isn’t as potent as ground but it’s up to you as to how much you want to use 🙂 I’d try maybe double the amount. Let me know what you think of the gummies!

I have been eyeing this recipe for months, and just received the gelatin and heart-shaped molds for my birthday, so I made it! Definitely good, hubby likes it, a fun and easy way to get our nutrients. Going to try the gingerbread gummies next. I’m going to add a little Stevia to taste, since I like things really sweet. The gelatin and water really made a thick blob, but while adding the milk mixture, a little patience during the whisking and it all smoothed out beautifully into a silky liquid. You are a great chef, and I always enjoy your humor too. Thank you!
