Ham and Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 1 pound split peas
  • 1 meaty ham bone + leftover diced ham for garnish
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup diced carrots
  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic
  • ½ serrano, minced, optional
  • 2 bay leaves
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 7 cups water or broth
  • Salt, adjust to taste

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to the pot.
  2. Secure the lid, close the pressure valve and cook for 15 minutes at high pressure.
  3. Naturally release pressure for 15 minutes.
  4. Adjust salt to taste.
  5. Optional: Fry any leftover diced ham in a sauté pan and use as garnish.
