Instant Pot Ham and Split Pea Soup

I can’t believe it’s almost Easter! That means it’s time to make my instant pot holiday ham again and it also means it’s time to make a delicious soup using the ham bone.

As much as we enjoy eating ham, I have to tell you  – I love using up the ham bone even more. During the Christmas holiday, I shared this creamy ham and wild rice soup and it was a hit! This year, we’ll be enjoying classic split pea soup with ham:

Instant Pot Ham and Split Pea Soup

This simple split pea soup is made with a handful of ingredients but the star of the soup: the magical ham bone. You just toss everything into the pot and pressure cook. It couldn’t be easier to make!

I highly suggest frying some diced ham in a sauté pan and adding it to the soup before you serve it. The caramelized pork makes this split pea soup a bit more decadent.

This split pea soup is so incredible! My friends made it after making your ham recipe and it inspired me to finally break open my instapot and follow suit. Five stars, thank you!!

Made your ham with all added ‘extras’ to the sauce! Amazing! Planning to make your IP Pea Soup in a couple of days. But, a few answers, please? On the IP did you use the Soup button? If not, is this cooked on High pressure? Did you use a blender or immersion blender when the soup was finished? Thank you so much! I’m happy I found your blog!!

Ryan, so glad you liked the ham! Hope you love this soup too! I always use the manual or pressure cook button (depending on the model) but the preset buttons work too as long as the time is right. And yes, high pressure. I didn’t use a blender but you can certainly blend the soup to get a smoother texture. Let me know how it goes!

Do you need to soak the split peas first? Or do they really only take 15 minutes in the instant pot?
I’m used to the crock pot where even after 8 hours they sometimes still aren’t cooked completely. Lol

    • My Heart Beets says

You don’t need to soak them for this recipe 🙂 Split peas are actually the only legume that I don’t bother soaking. The instant pot cooks them really quickly 🙂 Let me know what you think!
