Lately, I’ve been going to bed excited knowing that I’ll be waking up to this cardamom iced coffee in the morning.
Now that the weather is warming up, iced coffee is my morning drink of choice. To be specific, this cardamom spiced iced coffee made with cold brew. This drink is so simple to make that I feel silly calling it a recipe – it’s more of an “assembly” of different ingredients. Okay, that’s sort of the same thing I guess but calling it an assembly of ingredients makes me feel less silly. Although maybe it should make me feel more silly? Who else overthinks literally everything? Let’s start a club.
I try to make my own cold brew, because it’s so easy (add 1 cup freshly ground coffee to 4 cups of filtered water, leave it overnight, then strain), but these days I usually just buy it ready-made from the store. Now that I’m a mama, I often choose to pay for convenience. Pre-baby, I would roll my eyes when I’d see overpriced packaged products like “pre-spiraled veggie noodles” or “cauliflower rice.” But now I buy all of these things and thank my lucky stars that they exist. Basically – if it saves me time/gives me more time with my baby – chances are, I’ll pay for it.
You can find cold brew coffee at any health food store. I love the Chameleon cold brew brand, but lately I’ve been using the organic cold brew coffee from Trader Joe’s (the kind in the refrigerated section – NOT their shelf stable version). It’s affordable and tasty, but you can obviously use any brand you’d like or make your own! If you don’t want to use cold brew, just chill some regular coffee in the fridge. I like cold brew though because it’s less acidic/bitter than regular coffee.
If cardamom isn’t your jam, you can use a different spice instead! I bet cinnamon or ginger would be great. I plan on trying pumpkin pie once pumpkin season nears – but I’m not quite ready for that yet. I hope this summer goes by nice and slow. I want time to slow down for many reasons, the main one being that this is my first summer with a baby. I love sipping iced coffees and running around in the sunshine with my little guy. Caffeine is necessary and it doesn’t hurt that this drink happens to be delicious.

Hi Ashley! Do you make this ahead and store in the fridge for days, or does it need to be freshly made so it doesn’t get bitter? Thanks!

Hi! I make it fresh (using pre-made coldbrew) but I think it’d be fine if you made a big batch at once!

Never have tried iced coffee and cardamom but i make iced tea with cardamom and its great! Maybe I couldn’t get Starbucks at that time, but whatever it was I’ve switched to tea.
I get some of the best tea ever from teabox, a wonderful company in India. This is my first post and I’m really pleased to meet you! I made one your indian ground beef recipes last night and loved it!

To save time in the morning, is it fine to add the spice (cardamom or otherwise) as part of the cold brew?
My Heart Beets says
I think that would be fine! Let me know how it turns out for you 🙂
