Living in West Virginia has made me adventurous. If you told me a few years ago that I’d be willingly jumping into river water, hiking through mountains, and biking on trails, I’d tell you that you were certifiable. I was never an “outdoorsy” type of girl – I was more of a “let me get my hair, makeup, and nails done and go out clubbing” type of girl. Truthfully, I still love the hair/nails part, but now, I also don’t mind getting a little dirty. It’s more fun that way.
Whenever Roby and I have free time, we spend it exploring West Virginia and nearby, Pennsylvania. Before we embark on these fun days of exploration, we prepare by drinking an energizing and filling smoothie for breakfast. My go-to breakfast smoothie is simple: almond or cashew milk, avocado, greens (usually spinach), and a frozen ripe banana. I usually also add a smoothie booster: chia seeds, nut butter, cacao, goji berries, aloha powder, etc.
I definitely feel energized after drinking a green smoothie for breakfast. What do you eat/drink to keep you energized during workouts or before a long day?
It’s true, my morning smoothie really basic. If you want a fancier smoothie, try my mango chai smoothie or my creamy cashew cardamom smoothie 🙂

- 1 large handful spinach
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup water
- ½ avocado
- 1 frozen ripe banana
- 1 smoothie Booster: chia seeds aloha powder, nut butter
Instructions

Hi Ashley, Thanks a lot for sharing an alternative for dairy products. I have IBS and am intolerant towards milk, cheese and paneer. Gluten also causes problems though I can have them in winters. I stay in India so the winter months are limited. I’ll try the almond milk surely and some of the other recipes but all the ingredients are not available in India.

Hi Urmi, sorry about that! Can you tell me, what are some ingredients that I use often that you have trouble finding in India? Maybe I can try to use them a little less.

I usually drink chocolate and banana smoothie to energized after workouts. If there would be a lot of activities I prefer the Walnut, Peanut and Rice smoothie. It contains balanced carbs, protein, fat and fiber. It’s the perfect choice for breakfast, dessert or a post running snack.
